Cupid Joyride

Updated: Mar 20, 2021

Midnight

February thirteenth

I only stopped for gas

And to see if it was too early

For the price of the candy, to be cut in half

Arrows

A whole quiver

Each tipped with feathers

Lying among the dregs

Of the month – old wilted flowers

Abandoned

Along with their bow

No sign of their owner in sight

Anyone’s for the taking

So I take them with me

As I step back into the night

Backseat

I throw my spoils

As I put the car in drive and leave

Looking for a good place to start

My own little matchmaking spree

Bar

Downtown, the patrons

All begin to leave

They converge on the entrance

100 hundred easy targets for me

Nock

Draw, loose

I just let each arrow fly

Don’t stop to see if they strike

Everyone’s going home with someone

They didn’t plan on tonight

Diner

Open all night

Full of fellow jaded souls

Willing the night away

They expect nothing tomorrow

Happiness

Others deserve some

Even if I don’t care

Still have a couple arrows left over

And I’m happy to share

Sunrise

Can hear my bed call for sleep

Glad the roads are still quiet

As the journey passes in a blur

I’m home before I know it

Footsteps

Walking up the path

Empty-handed, but I don’t mind

The mania will be forgotten in a day

And at least I had fun

On my little joy ride
