I'll be the Moon

Watching like a mermaid watches the shore, crying
The tide echoing her yearning
In the cloudless sky of the early morning
I couldn’t bring myself to go
To heed daylight's call, the final bell tolls
I feel your fingers slip out of my hold
I couldn’t bring myself to leave
Tethered to you by gravity, watching you in all your glory
You’re burning, I’m yearning, wishing, relentlessly
For more than a few seconds, every morning and night
An eclipse alone is not enough to satisfy
Sharing our stolen dance, in the push and pull of the tides
In sunrise and in sunset, with the stars as our witness
I still won’t go, even if the gods demand it
Our distance only makes my heart grow fonder
I can’t bear it any longer, but I can’t change nature
Anymore, than I can stop loving you
So, if you’ll be the sun, I’ll be the moon
