Dawn breaks on the willow
To siren birdsong
The longing grows like ivy
Ensnaring you slowly
Temptation hangs from the trees
Fragrant and sweet as a peach
The juice stains like blood
Half-eaten fruit falls to the earth
An apple becomes a pomegranate
Or did it happen in reverse?
All the seeds are plundered
Collapsed and discarded
In the roots, she sleeps
The snake in the grass
Slithers through the weeds
When the shadows ensnare
It is yourself standing there
Trapped behind a mirror
An illusion to shatter
A hundred-year sleep to wake from
Without a kiss
The rusted knife in the corner
Forgotten and unused
The prison becomes a sanctuary
As magic blooms in her veins
The damsel goes unsaved
But her freedom she still claims
In the ash and the blood
Of the mistakes she makes
In the dwindling light
As who she was begins to fade
The sun sets to raise the moon
To bless the ground
Where she once stood
