I walk in the shadow of a manslayer

Who one day found me

And steered me away

From a path, I could never find

We turned to the woods, at the roadside

And made our way inside

It's alright, he told me

You can leave your life behind

If it no longer fits right

Though some will never let you forget

Who you once were

They'll cling to the old names

Following you like a shadow

Claiming that's all you'll be

Until you die

And you can try to outrun your past

But you'll never truly hide

But in the woods, we can wander at our own pace

While the world may rise and fall

We can answer our own call

Listen for the screams of our soul

Forgive ourselves for the paths we never took

And for the ones we did

Finally, put our demons to rest

We'll walk side by side

With our shared experiences

Others will struggle to understand

Because their pasts were never alive

In the way ours are

With a thread between us that refuses to break

No matter how much it frays

But as we make our way in deeper

You show me how to ignore it

Till its nothing more

Than a blur, in the corner of your eye

You'll forget you can see

For the first time, I find myself at peace

Following in your footsteps

And I could spend forever in the warmth of your shadow

But then I would never live my life for my own

I need to have faith in myself from here on out

I'm not afraid of what the future holds now

The trees begin to thin out

Our wandering has come to its end

The time has come for us to part

But you'll always be with me

And your sword

Will always be the shield I cling too

If I lose myself again
