All I Haven't Seen

It rains almost every day now

The window cries constantly

With heart-shattering grief

Liquid cannonball missiles that cut like steel

Through the snowdrop rivers, I see

As I walk these streets for the thousandth time

I’m homesick for sights I’ve never seen

Sunset painted stone, cinnamon air

This daffodil carpet only goes so far

Every break in the clouds is a ceasefire lie

To play you for a fool

Then attack you when you are blind

Each blue flare is a taunt, in a war with nature

You have no hope to win

When April promised it would be spring

Victory remains a far-off dream

Sun-bleached talcum sand and uranian seas

Saltwater breeze

I only wish to witness the constellations

In all their glory, undisturbed

But the clouds still smirk

Holding the sun hostage, and the ransom is too high

For a penniless bystander

Still paying the debt on places never seen

All the pictures and postcards

Disappear at dawn

With a last dance in the morning light

I can’t hold on to something; I have never seen

But I walk sakura - lined streets in my sleep
